The first season focuses on the period immediately before the murder of the Croatian MP Stjepan Radić in the National Assembly of the SHS and the introduction of the dictatorship.
Belgrade between the two world wars was chosen as the basic environment for playing out the narrative. At the center of the events are its main characters — the fifty-year-old criminal police inspector Andra Tanasijević Tane and his new colleague, the young forensic scientist Stanko Pletikosić.
In the first season, the plot begins at a masquerade ball, where all the ‘cream of the society’ of Belgrade is gathered, and where a brutal and very unusual murder takes place. Inspector Tanasijević soon becomes aware that the cause of frequent gruesome events, which begin to accumulate around the city, is an ancient relic - the Spear of Longinus (the holy spear with which Jesus was pierced on the cross) - which is attributed with mystical powers. He realizes that there are people who are ready to do anything to get the holy spear and falls into a vortex of crime involving all the obscure interest groups of the Balkans at the time: the Russian White Guard Cossack Army of General Wrangel, the Soviet secret police NKVD, the Black Hand, the VMRO, the communists, freemasons, Belgrade underground, secret sect Tule Society. Following the traces of committed crimes, the inspector joins the general pursuit of the relic with one sole goal - to remove it from Belgrade and prevent further suffering of innocent people.
